Freylekh #1

This was composed by my Dad, the great klezmer clarinetist, Harold Seletsky. It is performed here with him and his band.  It's a joyous tune -- my ensemble frequently opens our concerts with this piece.

Bagels in Bangkok (Quarter-tone Freylekh)

On a trip to Thailand to visit one of my sons I found myself in a bagel shop owned by a transplanted New Yorker--I felt I just had to write some music to capture the moment.  This is a klezmer freylekh but with a few quarter tones thrown in.  It is performed here by my ensemble, Big Galut(e).

 Harold's Piece

An original Doina and Freylekh by my Dad, the Prez of Klez, Harold Seletsky. It was his signature klezmer improvisation.  I notated it as closely as I could from his recordings and offer it here to you.

Efent dem Toyer

This is an original song I composed with lyrics adapted from a Yiddish poem by Kadya Molodowsky.  Efent dem Toyer translates as Open the Gates.  This song also has a good "Yai Dai Dai" chorus perfect for sing-alongs.

Mediterranean Dance

Mediterranean Dance is a fun piece for Clarinet Ensemble.  It is perfect for a college group - not too hard but with just enough technical requirements to make if enjoyable and challenging.  You can add percussion (as I did on the recording*) to give it a little more texture.  [*The sample recording is an arrangement for mixed woodwind ensemble performed by my SUNY Oneonta woodwind ensemble.  It includes sax and flutes.  This version is also available for purchase.
